Bukowskis can once again showcase a new auction record for Important Timepieces, which clubbed watches for a combined total close to 10 million SEK with a strong average price that continues to increase and is steadily approaching the 100,000 SEK.
“The result was exceptionally strong with high average prices after intensive bidding in a full auction room. We had both international and Swedish customers. This shows that we are the leading auction house in the Nordic region in quality watches,” says Carl Palmegren, Head Specialist Watches.
The exceptionally rare chronograph 5518 by Audemars Piguet was the auction's parade number and received a final price of 1,176,000 SEK. The rare reference 5518 was made in only nine copies. The first copy in gold was delivered to an owner in the United States, while the remaining eight in steel have never been sold on the open market, but rather given by Audemars Piguet to the winner of the Epreuves internationales de skiing competition in Le Brassus. Audemars Piguet's research reveals none of these watches have appeared in either private collections or at public auctions for several decades until now.
”It is a thrill to sell this auction’s Audemars Piguet 5518, which rarely is seen on the second hand market and particular not this one in steel. We saw a very intense bidding on this lot, both in the auction room and by telephone bidding.”
Another highlight at this fall’s hammer auction includes a very rare sought-after Patek Philippe “Calatrava”, one of the most iconic watch models in the world, which reached a final price of 955,555 SEK. This auctions Calatrava has a very sought-after reference, 2509, in steel.
“Patek Philippe Calatrava was produced during the 1950 and 60s and the total production was relatively low. Less than 20 watches in steel have been found for sale on the secondhand market” says Carl Palmegren, Head Specialist Watches.
There was a great demand on several Patek Philippe watches in the auction and majority of these watches reached high final prices. Patek Philippe Nautilus achieved a final price of 735,000 SEK, a Patek Philippe Grand Complications Perpetual Calendar finalized at 392,000 SEK and Patek Philippe Aquanut “First Generation” 1191176 was sold for a hammer price of 257,250 SEK.
Watches by timeless watchmakers such as Omega and Rolex are always sought-after and remains to be, whereas Omega Speedster chronograph ”Ultraman” achieved a final price of 281,000 SEK and Rolex GMT-Master ”Fuchsia” reached 220,000 SEK.
