A Worldwide Private Collection F579

Selling an art collection always adds an extra dimension to the included items. The seller's passion for the artworks provides them with an additional layer of history and context. This auction covers art and prints acquired by a private collector over a lifetime of travels around the world. In 1968, a time marked by cultural and political upheaval, a young intern travelled to Paris. There, in the heart of art and creativity, he made his first art purchase—a print by Pablo Picasso, which is included in this auction. This experience ignited his ongoing interest in art, which eventually led him into the gallery world, where he personally interacted with various artists. While studying in Italy, his interest in the modern Italian art scene grew, particularly in the Italian transavantgardists such as Sandro Chia.

In the years that followed, travels to the USA, Mexico, and Central America brought him into contact with artists, including the Mexican artist Rufino Tamayo. Tamayo’s works, characterised by vibrant, abstract compositions, deepened his appreciation for the international art scene.

After a period at the Stockholm Convention Bureau, where he contributed to promoting Stockholm as a congress city, he moved to Tehran for his first international posting with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. This was during the Iranian revolution, a time of cultural turmoil and change. His time there sparked a fascination with different cultures and their histories, especially in the realm of arts and crafts. Later, he moved to Switzerland, providing proximity to France and its rich art scene. His career also took him to Guatemala, where he discovered a captivating art scene that led him back to Tamayo and Mexican modernism.

In 1986, he returned to Stockholm, where he served on the board of the Ministry’s Art Association. Through numerous studio and gallery visits, he established personal connections with artists, enriching his understanding of the contemporary art scene. He was actively involved in the local cultural life and was a frequent visitor to auctions.

The next chapter in his life took him to Greece and then to Asia, where he spent a decade in countries such as Thailand and Malaysia. Every summer was spent in Skåne, where he developed relationships with gallery owners, including Galleri Arnstedt in Östra Karup. Through these connections and experiences, he developed a deep and multifaceted understanding of the global art scene, shaped by his travels and cultural exchanges.

You are invited to explore a selection from his collection in this auction, featuring both paintings and prints by internationally recognised names as well as notable Swedish artists.
