The artist couple Isaac Grünewald and Sigrid Hjertén stand out as central figures in Swedish modernism. Their significant and innovative place in Swedish art life was consolidated by, among other things, the major Expressionist exhibition that took place at Liljevalchs Konsthall in Stockholm in 1918 together with their friend Leander Engström. During the 20th century, their art has been the subject of numerous exhibitions and they are both considered to be among the foremost modernists in Sweden.
In this theme auction we meet the two artists as printmakers, portraits and figure compositions executed as woodcuts and lithographs.
