An Elizabethan I sterling silver communion cup and paten, London, 1577/1578.

Cup decorated with an engraved band around the body raised on a knopped stem, circular base with egg decorated border. Paten edge reeded. The year 1578 is engraved on the foot and on the paten, which serves as a cover. Hallmarked on the cup and on the paten, incl. maker's monogram mark SE (illustrated in "English Goldsmiths and their Marks", Sir Charles J. Jackson, p. 104).
Total height 21 cm. The diameter of the cup rim 8.2 cm. Weight 272 g.

An indentation on the surface of the paten, and on its foot/ the finial of the cover. Wear du to age and use. Year engravings later.
