The Women's Clinic opened on 3 October 1934. When it was completed, it was also the largest obstetrics and gynecology clinic in Europe. The building had 237 patient beds and facilities for 80 newborns. The aim to be functional was reflected in the building's exterior and interior details. The wards were sparsely furnished: the rooms had linoleum floors, the walls were painted light and the rooms were simple, partly equipped with furniture designed by Alvar Aalto.
The chest of drawers now for sale was part of the original furnishings in room 81 of the Women's Clinic. The backboard is stamped with the Helsinki University Hospital mark HYKS.
