John Barclay:
Argenis, på swensko öfwersatt, jämte uttolkningen öfwer dess enkannerliga ändamål och afseende; försedd med nödige anmärkningar och register.
Stockholm, Lorentz Ludew. Grefing, 1740. 4to. (18,7 x 15 cms.) [16] + 964 pp. + 1 engraved portrait + 1 folding engraved map. Title printed in red & black. Translated and edited by Jonas Malmborg.
A very attractive (if not large) copy, bound in 2 volumes, near-contemporary full speckled calf, spines with 5 raised bands, board edges gilt. Slight wear to bindings, slight marginal corner loss to leaf P4, leaf 5L4 torn into text.
There is evidence that Ericus Olai Lindeman began translating Argenis (1621) into Swedish as early as the 1650s. The present Swedish edition is the first, however, and a second one, by Johan Ehrenström, followed in 1741.
