A silver brooch by Wiwen Nilsson set with step-cut rock crystals, Lund 1942
The rock crystals measure 8.2x8.2x6.2 mm, the brooch measures 55x8.2x6.1 mm, weight approximately 10.9 grams.
Three minor chips on the quartz crystals visible with a 10x loupe. Minor scratches on the silver. The brooch pin is slightly bent.
Wiwen Nilsson was a Swedish designer born in Copenhagen. He studied at his father's workshop, as well as in Germany, Denmark, and France. Nilsson is primarily known for his objects created in silver with geometric, clean, and austere forms. Nilsson debuted at the Gothenburg Exhibition in 1923. At the Stockholm Exhibition in 1930, he had his major breakthrough, and his innovative modernism was a success. Nilsson created, among other things, jewellery, table silver, and services.
