More information

A particular chapter in his art consists of the sculptures he made from pieces of catfish, potsherds, and porcelain shards, all assembled with cement. His observational skills triumph as he captures the character of both animals and humans in these resistant materials. In this way, he executed all the "Commedia dell'arte" characters, where he, with utmost precision, pinpointed their vanity, servility, jealousy, and mischief. Olle Nyman's greatness as an artist lay in his ability to reach life and nature without compromising the discipline he believed artistic work demanded.
