The extensive design department offers interesting collectables and unique objects from designers such as John Kandell, Jonas Bohlin and Erik Höglund.
James Rosenquist’s colourful work ”From Ladies of the Opera Terrace” is one of the highlights of this auction. Rosenquist is considered one of the pioneers in Pop art, and the painting shows Rosenquist’s painterly and colouristic mastery. ”From Ladies of the Opera Terrace” is based on a large mural completed for the Opera Terrace in Stockholm. William N. Copley’s artwork ”Flag for the USA” is a part of the artist’s first set of flags, created in 1962, in an edition of 6 for each motif. Other significant works in the spring auction are the sculpture ”Half an Angel” by Maria Miesenberger and Christo’s diptych from ”The Umbrellas” series.
The photography department includes both conceptual and classic documentary photography and iconic portraits. One fine example is Irving Penn, an icon within black and white fashion photography. For 66 years, Penn worked for Vogue Magazine, and the photograph from this spring’s auction was on Vogue’s cover in May 1951.
Bukowskis can present an excellent section of Andy Warhol’s print motifs. One of the highlights is Warhol’s iconic Marilyn Monroe portrait. The catalogue also includes prints by Banksy, Roy Lichtenstein and David Hockney.
Unique to this spring auction is John Kandell’s chair ”Solitaire”, which is rarely seen on the auction market. The chair is a rarity produced in only three copies and a significant postmodern Swedish collector’s item. We also present Jonas Bohlin’s cabinet ”Slottsbacken” and the armchair ”Concrete” – icons in Swedish postmodernist furniture design. An extensive mix of international and Swedish design from well-known designers such as Caroline Schlyter, Ron Arad, Isamu Noguchi, Verner Panton, Bröderna Campana, Angelo Mangiarotti, Mats Theselius and Thomas Sandell is presented, as well as unique collectables.
