June - A month of Fine Art auctions

Bukowskis is pleased to present our classic hammer sale Important Spring Sale with a high-quality selection of classical art, works of art, Asian works of art and jewellery. This seasons catalogue also includes a significant new special department featuring modern and contemporary prints with international names such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Pablo Picasso and Marc Chagall.

One of the highlights in the classic Swedish art department includes Anders Zorn's oil painting "Gammal Spegel” (Old Mirror), an artist that we pay particular attention to this year as it is the 100th anniversary. We can also present several of Carl Larsson's adorable portraits and lovely watercolours, which reflect the beautiful early summer that also frames the spring's first auction. The well-known and extensively exhibited Carl Fredrik Hill's, "Road with sitting dog, Fontainebleau", a masterpiece that, so far, never has been for sale and was completed during a period when the artist was at the height of his artistry, estimate 5 000 000 – 6 000 000 SEK. On view is also Helmer Osslund's magnificent and breathtaking display of autumnal colours in Mullfjället, and an almost mythical watercolour from 1912 by John Bauer, from a period when his fairytale art is the most dazzling.

In the department of old masters, we would like to pay particular attention to Francesco Albani's interesting painting "Europe and The Bull". The earliest mention of this painting can be traced to Monsignor Giorgio Bolognetti's collection from the 1600s. Among the Swedish old masters, we have the pleasure of presenting, among other things, Sätra Brunn's Trinity painting. In the department for sculpture, Bukowskis presents the popular The Skating Princess by Carl Milles. The sculpture department includes sculptures in all kinds of materials; bronze, stone, silver and wood for all different tastes.

The department for furniture can parade with a Gustavian bureau from the end of the 18th century by master Gottlieb Iwersson, with an estimate of 200 000 – 300 000 SEK. The model of the bureau is of the French form introduced by Georg Haupt in Sweden in the 1770s. Georg Haupt, himself, is also represented, this time with an oval table, elegantly decorated with a black japanned top with gilt pagoda landscape

An exquisite Royal gift in the form of two filigree beakers marked Rudolf Wittkopf from 1698 is also included in the auction. The beakers were part of the impressive diplomatic silver gift presented to Peter the Great by Karl XII in 1966, in hope of securing the eastern border. Bukowskis can present another sensational highlight in the form of a rarity, a plate money 8 daler SM with a weight of 14.5 kg embossed in 1659 in Avesta, which is the highest value of denomination that can be acquired by a collector today.

Bukowskis Asian Sale proudly present sought-after items from several well-known Swedish private collectors, such as Gustaf Wallenberg, Emil Hultmark, Sten Ankarcrona and Stenbeck, to name a few. The dynamic carpet department offers no less than three Indian mogul objects from the 17th-18th century, two carpets and one embroidery from Wivica Ankarcrona Borell's collection. Also included is as grand rug from the second half of the 19th century from Agra, royal in its apparition, in addition to tapestry weaves and silk carpets.

The jewellery department presents an extensive auction with a range of jewellery of different types and expressions from different eras, where designer jewels are for sale – along with classic beauties such as an exclusive tiara with old-cut diamonds and pearls, estimate 275 000 – 325 000 SEK.

Welcome to the viewing at our premises at Berzelii Park 1, where, based on the recommendations of the Public Health Authority, we will welcome a limited number of guests at a time. You are also warmly welcome to book a private viewing with any of our specialists at a suitable time outside of regular viewing hours. Contact information for the specialists can be found on this page or here

During the spring we have also offered virtual viewings which has been much appreciated! With these digital viewings, you can easily wander around our premises via computer, mobile and iPad and click through the selection of art and art of crafts.

Welcome to take part in Bukowskis fantastic Fine Art auctions and exhibitions in June!
