Bukowskis presents this spring's edition of Contemporary Art & Design, a high international level auction with several strong art and design objects. The auction includes works by international artists such as Keith Haring and Irving Penn along with Swedish foreground figures in both art and design such as Ola Billgren and Jonas Bohlin. We are particularly proud to present "Untitled", an ink drawing by Keith Haring, drawn in 1983 shortly after his first solo show at Tony Shafrazi's iconic gallery in Soho, which also kicked off his career. In his works he created a personal visual language with symbols, making his images both typical and timeless at the same time. We also want to highlight an original work by the recently deceased Christo (Christo & Jeanne-Claude), whose work "Package on a hand truck (Project)", 1973, will be auctioned on June 17. In 2021, Christos' very last monumental installation will take place in Paris as his staff completes the project by wrapping the Arc de Triomphe. During the period July to October this year, Christos and Jeanne-Claude's artwork is also celebrated with an exhibition at Centre George Pompidou in Paris. Several younger interesting artists widely acknowledge in the early 2010s are also featured in the auction, including works by Linnea Sjöberg, Vannessa Safavi, Thomas Lundgren and Leontine Arvidsson as well as Joakim Ojanen, NUG and Mr Doodle. Bukowskis are particularly excited to introduce these artists to the Swedish auction public. The department for Photography is as usual extraordinary and includes both conceptual- as well as classic documentary photography. The high-quality auction offers works by Irving Penn, Jimmy Nelson and Peter Beard as well as contemporary photography by Charlotte Gyllenhammar, Uta Barth and Martin Schoeller, which show that the modes of expression in photographic technology can be infinitely varied.
The department for Design offers a dynamic range of Swedish and international design from the 1960s until today. Some of the highlights are Ettore Sottas's "Nairobi" cabinet, red and black lacquered in a zebra pattern, Jonas Bohlin's iconic "Concrete" and Ron Arad's "2 R Not" in glossy and patinated steel, all fantastic representatives of the department along with names such as Mats Theselius and Thomas Sandell. In addition to these, the catalogue offers several high-profile designers who represent our contemporary design scene, such as Nick Ross, Hanna Hansdotter and Fredrik Nielsen. Collectables from Gabriella Crespi, Roberto Matta and Bruno Moinard will also be auctioned this spring.
