More information

The Khalka Jetsun Dampas were the secular and spiritual leaders of Mongolia. The second one (Lobzang Tenpay Donme, 1724-1757), studied in Beijing, and also in Lhasa with the Seventh Dalai Lama. He died before his studies were completed at age thirty-three. In order to foster peaceful relations with Mongolia, the Emperors of the Qing dynasty maintained quarters for the Jetsun Dampas in Beijing and Chengde (Jehol).
