Table ”Mora” – a rare piece by the great Axel Einar Hjorth

Axel Einar Hjorth

– ”Mora”, Nordiska Kompaniet for the Stockholm Exhibition 1930

Bukowskis presents a rare table designed by the great Axel Einar Hjorth at this season's Modern Art + Design on November 17–18. Unique for this table is the serial number ”C22246”, which suggests that it was precisely this table that was exhibited for Nordiska Kompaniet at the Stockholm Exhibition in 1930 in the ”hall for more expensive things”.

The silhouette is striking with its oval shape with carved and painted pine in black and ocher. The top and foot in relief decoration show Hjorth’s greatness and incredible ability to create furniture in varying expressions with its own character, refined details and exquisite craftsmanship. The table is a prime example of Nordic design history.

› Metal label: ”NORDISKA KOMPANIET R 34552 - C22246”

› According to the Nordiska Kompaniet Archives, the drawing is dated 20/12 1929

› The tabletop with relief decoration shows exquisite craftsmanship

“It is magical that another table of the ‘Mora’ series by Hjorth has now appeared and that this, the third Bukowskis has had the pleasure of selling, is probably the table that was showcased at the Stockholm exhibition! The ”Mora” series stands out as very unusual and avant-garde in Hjorth’s production at this time”, says Eva Seeman, Head Specialist Design and 20th-21st C Works of Art

At this season’s Modern Art + Design on November 17-18, Bukowskis presents a wide selection of furniture designed by Axel Einar Hjorth.
