The specialist's choice – Camilla Behrer lists favourites in the upcoming auction

Specialists choice Camilla Behrer

We have spoken with Camilla Behrer, Specialist Design and 20th Century Works of Art, who talks about the selection at this spring's Modern Art + Design. She also takes the opportunity to list some of her favourite objects among the substantial selection in this spring's auction.

Pablo Picasso plate "Visage de femme"

This excellent work of art was created by Picasso in the Madoura studio in Vallauris in 1953 and depicts an elegant female face in white faience clay with carved decor and glaze in blue, green and white against black.
The plate was then performed in a limited edition of only 400 copies. The auction copy was bought directly on-site in Suzanne and George's studio in Vallauris in 1956. The estimate is SEK 100-125,000, which I consider to be a very reasonable level compared to painting by one of the 20th century's greatest artists.

Wilhelm Kåge a ”Farsta” stoneware vase, Gustavsberg studio 1954

An unusually large and generous Farsta vase in Farsta Rust and blue with geometrically cut decor, made in 1954. The vase was made the year after Wilhelm Kåge's retrospective exhibition at Nationalmuseum in Stockholm where his great professional efforts were summed up.
The powerful and distinctive "Farstagods" was introduced at the Stockholm exhibition in 1930. Kåge's continued to experiment with Farsta for the rest of his life. Kåge created the most impressive objects during the 1950s when he had more time for creation after stepping down from his role as artistic director at the factory.

John Selbing sculptures "Klot över kon" Orrefors 1954

Magnificent and very unusual sculptures designed by Orrefors master photographer John Selbing. These thin geometric glass sculptures "Klot över kon" he designed in the 1950s and were made in different sizes. The auction's sculptures are probably the largest I've seen.

Ib Kofod Larsen armchairs "Sälen"

It is rare to find a pair of these coveted armchairs in beautifully patinated cognac-coloured original leather, designed by the Danish furniture designer Ib Kofod Larsen in 1957 and manufactured at Olof Persons Armchair Industry.

Alexandre Noll Large ebony bowl

Large ebony bowl by Alexandre Noll, France 1950s. To my knowledge, this is the first time an item by the sought-after Alexandre Noll has been offered on the Swedish auction market. These rarities have many collectors internationally.

Swedish Modern steel framed mirror, 1930's

An elegant mirror from the functionalist era in the 1930s can fit in many modern homes. This model is not named yet and can therefore be a real find.
