The specialist's choice –Jonatan Jahn lists favourites in the upcoming auction

Specialists choice Jonatan Jahn

We have spoken with Jonatan Jahn, Specialist Design and 20th-21st Century Works of Art, who talks about the selection at this spring's Modern Art + Design. He also takes the opportunity to list some of his favourite objects among the substantial selection in this spring's auction.

What can we look forward to in this spring's Modern Art + Design auction?
This spring's Modern Art + Design includes many exclusive interior design objects! The range consists of significant design classics from star architects such as Finn Juhl, Josef Frank, Axel Einar Hjorth, Gio Ponti, Alvar Aalto and Gunnar Asplund, as well as fantastic craftsmanship from Simon Gate, Axel Salto, Pablo Picasso, Berndt Friberg and Eva Hild and more.
In addition to star designers' works, there are several exciting objects from significant Swedish designers that appear less often at auction and exclusive anonymous objects for those looking for something different!
Feel free to look through our web catalogue and do not hesitate to stop by for a viewing. You can also email or call me, and we will find a time that suits you. Welcome!

Ceiling lamp Swedish Grace 1920s-30s

The ceiling lamp is one of the favourites in this spring's Modern catalogue. Swedish design from the 1920s and 1930s is a category that is close to my heart. We rarely see this type of lamp in this size at auction. The pure expression with the globe-shaped details that contrast with the tight screens is so tight and elegant, typical of the prevailing ideals of the time. Had I had space, it would have been a centrepiece in my home!

Gunnar Asplund Sideboard, Swedish Grace, 1910-20s.

Gunnar Asplund is a giant in Swedish architectural history. This is a unique opportunity to acquire a piece of furniture that Asplund designed for his own home and has then been inherited within the family. Asplund's expression was of great importance for Swedish classicism of the 1920s, Swedish Grace and later functionalism during the 1930s. The cabinet we are now going to sell has several of Asplund's iconic features, such as the semicircular front that is repeated as an expression in his architecture. Several of Asplund's masterpieces are characterized by geometric and classical shapes, such as Stockholm City Library's cylindrical body and the portal to Listers Härads Tingshus can be compared to the design of the cabinet.
