With 248 (of 252) engraved plates, some folding, one with mended tear, a few stains and spots. Engraved vignettes in text.
Volumes numbered 1-9 on spines. Apparently some mixing of editions, vols. 1-2 printed a few years later with woodcut vignette on titles, vols. 3-9 with engraved vignette. Vols. 6-7 with title ”Ceremonies et coutumes religieuses des peuples idolatres”. Volume 8 is numbered ”tome septieme seconde partie” on title, plates however correctly numbered as vol 8, plate 1 etc., volume 9 is numbered 8 on title, the plates however correctly numbered as vol. 9, plate 1 etc. Each of the 9 volumes has plates stating the same volume number as on spine.
Nine volumes, Contemporary mottled calf, spines with raised bands and contrasting labels, red edges, possibly bound by Christopher Schneidler (Carlander 4:730). Initials R.S. in gilt on upper covers (possibly for merchant Roland Schröder, 1713-73). Somewhat worn, spines faded, occasional marginal damstains and stains. Bookplate: Tidö bibliotek.
Included are the religious ceremonies of the Jews, the Catholics, the Greeks, the Protestants, the Muslims, and various Asian, Native American and African religions.
