A Swedish rococo gilt-brass four-light lantern, possibly a masterpiece, Stockholm, later part of the 18th century.

Frame of gilded brass with glass sides. Hexagonal shape. Rich decoration of rocailles, flowers, garlands, and finials in the shape of flames. Height 94 cm, diameter 56 cm.

Alkuperä - Provenienssi

Joakim Daniel Wahrendorff (1723-1803), his estate inventory [1804], the house in Gamla Stan in Salen "1. Lantern ....10. " his widow, Maria Juliana Rothsteins (1736-1821) estate inventory [1822]: "1 Hall lantern... 12:-" by decent to the grandson, Martin Wahrendorff (1789-1861) listed in his estate inventory [1861] at Åkers styckebruk: "1 Entrance hall lantern in brass frames __ 10"

According to an advertisement dated 19/12 1783, Georg Haupt had for sale a masterwork lantern in French style, adorned with gilded chiselled brass and large glass panes, "suitable as an ornament in a beautiful hall".
