The young Beatrice Portinari is immortalized by the Italian author Dante Alighieri's writings "In the spring of life" and "Divina Commedia".
Dante is regarded as one of the greatest writers of the Western world of all time and is best known for his literary work "Divina Commedia" (The Divine Comedy). This allegorical story was written in the early 1300s but has served as an inspiration to many modern writers.
The text describes Dante's walk through hell and purgatory but also in Paradise where he gets to meet Beatrice.
Beatrice Portinari was actually named Bice di Folco Portinari and was born in Florence in 1266, she died at only 24 and was Dante's great love and muse.
Artists all through the centuries have later made different interpretations of this young beauty.
