Do you own Chinese Imperial porcelain or does your family have any historical connections to China? As early as the 17th century an interest in Asia, particularly China and Japan, was sparked in Europe, partly as a result of the various European East India Companies that were emerging. In 1731 Sweden established its own East India Company and two years later the company’s first journey to China took place. In addition to the great import of objects during the 18th century, diplomats, researchers, engineers, missionaries and deft Swedish collectors also brought objects back home from Asia to Sweden during most of the 20th century. Today we continue to rediscover numerous beautiful Asian objects in Scandinavia.
We are now looking for Imperial porcelain, Buddhas, textiles, carpets, lacquerware, cloisonné and enamels, jewellery, jade objects, scroll paintings and watercolours, as well as Chinese and Japanese furniture.
