Iman Issa lives in New York and Cairo, and her works have been shown at Tate Modern in London and other major venues. Her approach to abstraction is via Islamic iconography – where depiction has been prohibited for thousands of years. She recently produced a proposal for a monument commemorating the casualties of the Iraq war, which she shoed at the ICA in London.
