Bukowskis Strengthens its Position as The Leading Auction House in Scandinavia for Modern Art
Several Record Prices for Female Modernists
The Modern Art & Design live auction saw several world records, and, together with the results from the Contemporary Art & Design auction, Bukowskis continues to dominate the market with a total of 11 lots exceeding one million SEK.
Bukowskis’ previous record for Lotte Laserstein was repeatedly surpassed when the significant painting "Polly Tieck" (1929) sold for 5 914 000 SEK after lively bidding from both Sweden and abroad. A world record was also set for the newly discovered surrealist work "Brinnande jord" ("Burning Earth") (1946) by the Norwegian-American artist Elsa Thoresen, which sold for 3 000 000 SEK, and for Norwegian Ragnhild Keyser’s "Komposition", another previously unknown piece, which sold for 1 500 000 SEK.
"There was a great deal of pre-sale interest in these three works, all by female artists who have deservedly received significant recognition in recent years on both the Swedish and international markets. Bidding was intense on all three pieces, making it an auction at its very best," notes Lena Rydén, Head of Art.
