Helene Schjerfbeck Leads Bukowskis Helsinki Spring Sale with two masterpieces
Helsinki Spring Sale - Finland's leading auction for art, jewellery silver and antiques.
Among the highlights of the auction were two masterpieces by Helene Schjerfbeck, several paintings by Tove Jansson and a high-quality selection of silver and works of art.
The paintings "Church window" from 1919 and "Vain woman” from 1935 by Helene Schjerfbeck were the auctions top lots and main attraction. Both works attracted great interest and exciting bidding and sold for for impressive final prices of EUR 556,250 and EUR 492,660 respectively.
In the section for Finnish classical art, a high final price was also achieved for Akseli Gallen-Kallela's painting "The Boat Bow" and within the more modern Finnish art we saw, among other lots, "Old village welcomes the winter" by Reidar Särestöniemi and the works "Panther" and "Butterfly ” by Leena Luostarien, both exceeding expectations.
Tove Jansson was represented with several oil paintings such as "Still-life with cat and hat", and "The chairs". Unique to this auction were also a number of stained glass paintings executed by Tove Jansson in 1941 for the iconic Tullbommen restaurant in Helsinki.
Highlights within silver and works of art included a silver bowl by Mikhail Tarasov, a set of "Flora Danica" porcelain from Royal Copenhagen, an imperial tankard in gilt bronze and cut red and clear glass and a number of Rococo commodes and Empire armchairs.
