Sought-after design by Axel Einar Hjorth at Modern Art & Design
A collection of pine furniture
At Modern Art & Design, Bukowskis presents a sports cabin interior with pine furniture designed by chief architect Axel Einar Hjorth for Nordiska Kompaniet. The furniture was originally ordered for the Scharin villa in Umeå, which was designed by Ragnar Östberg and built between 1904 and 1905. Following its private ownership until 1957, the villa was acquired by Umeå. In 1960, the villa was converted into the Umeå Student Union. Before the sale to Umeå, fixtures were sold and the present furniture was bought by a private person for a new mountain cabin in Hemavan, which was completed in 1956. Since then, this cabin and its furnishings have passed down through generations, now in the possession of its present owner.
Highlighted amidst this spring's live auction are sought-after pieces from the "Lovö" and "Skoga" series, alongside a unique pair of armchairs hailing from the "Utö" collection, designed in 1932.
