New world record for Tove Jansson – “The windows of the atelier” sold for 383 800 EUR

Helsinki Spring Sale offered strong final prices and several new world records. The department for modern Finnish art attracted both international and Finnish bidders and achieved fantastic results.

The most sensational sale of the auction was “The windows of the atelier” by Tove Jansson, which after intense bidding, sold for the record price of 383 800 EUR. New auction records were also set for artists Anitra Lucander (final price 45 940 EUR) and Ernst Mether-Borgström (final price 58 990 EUR).

The department for classic Finnish art also offered high final prices. “Twinflowers” by Helene Schjerfbeck reached the final price of 220 252 EUR and a captivating oil painting by Ferdinand von Wright sold for 55 004 EUR. The highlight of the international department was "Lurra 77" by Eduardo Chillida, which sold for a final price of 136 075 EUR.

With joy, one could once again note how high-quality and enchanting works by Helene Schjerfbeck and Tove Jansson continue to arouse interest and delight far beyond our region's borders. We are also extremely pleased with the turnout of international interest around Eduardo Chillida's sculpture "Lurra-77", which despite some defects, reached a great final price", says Johan Wulff, Head of Finnish Art.
