World record for international art with multiple bidders globally
Contemporary Art & Design resulted in sensational final prices for works by international and Swedish artists such as Jim Nutt, Andy Warhol, David Hockney, as well as Karin Mamma Andersson, Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg, Barbro Östlihn and Maria Miesenberger. Mats Theselius delivered the design department’s highest final price with a new world record for his iconic easy chair, ”Älgskinnsfåtöljen”.

› A new world record for Jim Nutt at Bukowskis as the work ”Tooth” reached a final price of 13,100,000 SEK.
– Warhol continues to attract collectors worldwide and is constantly in the spotlight. Works with the right motif, condition and provenance are in high demand. The auction’s excellent selection of works attracted customers and collectors at the absolute highest level, says Marcus Kinge, Specialist Prints.
– Bukowskis has a long history of selling collections with outstanding results. A personally curated collection generates added value for buyers. This auction featured pieces from the extensive and exciting Lars Wetterling Collection (the remaining works will be sold at Modern Art + Design in November and an online theme auction). The works that stood out were Karin Mamma Andersson, whose painting became the most expensive in the collection with a final price of SEK 3 518 000. Other highlights included Tarasewicz’s fine painting and several sculptures, as well as an unusual tapestry by Lena Cronqvist from the 1970s, all went for high prices. In the photography department, international photographers and colour photos were the most sought-after, says Karin Aringer, Photography and Contemporary Art specialist.
The design department featured iconic items such as the ”Älgskinnsfåtöljen” easy chair by Mats Theselius and the famous ’Concrete’ chair by Jonas Bohlin. Bukowskis also presented young contemporary designers who attracted a new audiences, such as Hanna Hansdotter, Gustaf Nordenskiöld, Fredrik Nielsen and Attila Suta, whose items were highly sought after.
– Collections are selling exceptionally well at Bukowskis, which is particularly satisfying as they attract attention both in Sweden and internationally. The objects by Mario Bellini and Vladimir Kagan resulted in an intense bidding. It was also great to present Fredrik Nielsen’s powerful ”Purple pitcher”, says Jonatan Jahn, Head Specialist Contemporary and Modern Design.
