First day of Important Spring Sale

Magnificent chandelier sold for SEK 7,962,500

Record sales during day 1

A magnificent chandelier in silver brass, argent haché, attributed to Pierre Boulanger, Paris ca 1750, was sold for a sensational final price of SEK 7,962,500 during Important Spring Sales' first day. A record sale within Works of Art and a real rarity on the auction market.
– The department for Works of Art included objects of the highest quality, and the result shows a growing interest, both in Sweden and internationally, for the absolute best in its genre. We are glad about the trust and a fantastic result during the first day of the auction, says Björn Extergren, Head of Consignments & Sales Fine Art.
– A historic auction day! The magnificent chandelier combines the best of the best, the highest quality and exclusivity. A chandelier but at the same time a work of art or a sculpture that works great in any modern interior. It might be the very best I've ever seen in rococo style, a true masterpiece. Where will you find another one? says Carl Barkman, Chief Specialist fine art & antiques.
The Swedish baroque silver attracted intense bidding for the department in full, especially for the little jug by Petter Lund, Nyköping 1727, and the generous brandy-bowl by the same maker from 1703. Impressive was also the bidding for the set of four Swedish rococo candlesticks, unbeatably beautiful to set the table with and one of the department's highlights with a final price of SEK 453,250.
– It is with great pleasure that I look back on today's auction - it was so exciting to see the strong interest in the rare baroque objects, such as the small glass tankard with silver lid, a unique object with a strong personality. Or the Baltic silver dish, which had an unusually beautiful decor and attracted the attention of many silver lovers, says Anna Wehtje, Head of Silver & Objects of Vertu.
Additional highlights in the auction were a pair of Swedish porphyry urns, late Gustavian early 19th century, which reached a final price of SEK 330 750 and four embroidered panels, England 18th century that reached a final price of SEK 281 750. In the jewellery department, Björn Weckström's Collier "The living wall" in 18K gold with moving tourmalines and a tiara by Hugo Strömdahl in 18K sold for high final prices.
