Important Spring Sale – Carl Barkman lists favourites in the upcoming auction

Specialists choice Carl Barkman

We have spoken with Carl Barkman, Head Specialist Fine Art and Antiques, who talks about the selection at this spring's Important Spring Sale. He also takes the opportunity to list some of his favourite objects among the substantial selection in this spring's auction.

What can we look forward to in this spring's Important Spring Sale auction?
- We can look forward to an auction full of not only high-class items but also items with a history that bridge time gaps and make the past feel present and tangible.

What should you think about if you want to buy antiques?
- If you think of buying antiques, a good guiding principle is to focus on one or two objects. Find out everything you need to know about these, read, ask us, specialists at Bukowskis. Antique objects can often look scratchy, but much is on the surface and can easily be fixed. Nor must we forget that most of these things are created for use, and they still hold for usage today. Do not see collecting antiques just as something for display in a locked cabinet but as objects that can be integrated and used in the home and thus gild everyday life.
Feel free to look through our catalogue online and do not hesitate to stop by for a viewing. You can also email or call me, and we will find a time that suits you. Welcome!

When is the viewing and auction?

Chandelier for five candles Argent haché

The crown of the auction combines all the best of an item, the highest quality and exclusivity. Useful at the same time as it can function as a work of art, a sculpture in a super-modern interior. Should you need to explain to a Martian what Rococo is, it is enough to show off this crown.

To the chandelier

Tankard with lid Northern Europe around 1600

With its unbroken provenance since the 1590s until today, the mug reflects Swedish-Danish history. Its owners have been prominent men and women in both countries. Holding an object like this in your hand and thinking about what it has been through for almost 450 years makes you kind of dizzy.

Ernst Josephson "Amor and Psyche"

I have always been fascinated by Ernst Josephson. Even before his illness, his free manner of painting, like here, often feels modern. Both in style and motif, this painting easily fits together in a collection of both older and contemporary art. Easy to place and easy to like, but never banal
