Success for the design department at Modern Art + Design
Great interest in Axel-Einar Hjorth, Märta Måås-Fjetterström, Axel Salto, Alexandre Noll and Pablo Picasso on Modern Art + Designs' first day, to name just a few of many designers whose objects are sought-after both in Sweden and internationally. The auction's most expensive lot sold were two magnificent candelabra by Georg Jensen, which sold for as much as SEK 453,000. Other top lots were Marianne Richter's carpet "Fläkten", Axel Einar Hjorth's table "Utö", and Hans Hedberg's monumental "Apelsin", all hammered high above estimate after energetic bidding.
– There is a great demand for Swedish design and crafts right now, Axel Einar Hjorth's fine collection of furniture, together with Estrid Ericson and Josef Frank for Svenskt Tenn, are some of several remarkable examples, says Eva Seeman, Head specialist design & modern crafts.
– It is delighting that Marianne Richter, together with Märta-Måås Fjetterström and Barbro Nilsson, three of our foremost textile artists, are so successful internationally. The auction's rich selection and pleasing results show a continued strong interest in carpets of the absolute finest quality, says Anette Granlund, Responsible Specialist carpets, textiles & Islamic arts and crafts
The design department as a whole offered furniture and handicrafts of the highest class, including collectables, Danish design classics and fine ceramics, modern silver and art glass by some of the Nordic region's most renowned designers.
– The very unusual glass sculptures "Klot över kon", designed by Orrefors master photographer John Selbing, are very rare collectibles and the price thereafter. Fantastic bidding! says Camilla Behrer, Specialist design and modern arts and crafts.
