The specialist's choice – Amanda Wahrgren lists favourites in the upcoming auction

Specialists choice Amanda Wahrgren

We have spoken with Amanda Wahrgren, Specialist Modern Art, Prints, who talks about the selection at this spring's Modern Art + Design. She also takes the opportunity to list some of her favourite objects among the substantial selection in this spring's auction.

What can we look forward to in this spring's Modern Art + Design auction?
At this spring's Modern Art & Design, we have a wide selection of high quality Swedish as well as international artists. I often get caught by concrete and abstract art, and this auction includes some fine examples like a fine painting by Olle Baertling entitled "Artoa" with provenance Teto Ahrenberg, exciting works by the Dane Richard Mortensen and Erik Olson's "Carré rouge", which was shown at the legendary Art Concret exhibition at Café Puck at the Stockholm exhibition 1930.
In the international department, we find the painting "Le Poissonnier" by Bernard Buffet, initially included in the film director Jean Negulesco's collections. Another highlight worth mentioning is an abstract composition by Nicolas de Staël from 1946.
The Jan-Torsten Ahlstrand collection includes many exciting works of art; a personal favourite is the set table by Gerhard Nordström, which brings to mind his suite "Summer 1970". Another favourite is, of course, Erik Olson's fantastic "Fisherman by the Seine".
Feel free to look through our web catalogue and do not hesitate to stop by for a viewing. You can also email or call me, and we will find a time that suits you. Welcome!

Lynn Chadwick, 'Walking couple II'

I have always loved Lynn Chadwick's monumental, cloaked and geometric sculptures and the auction's "Walking couple II" is fantastic, I think. With a height of around 30 cm, it is easy to place but carries the ability to be a central focus in the room.

Jacques Majorelle 'Dancers in Goulimine'

Jacques Majorelle, 'Dancer in Goulimine'.

It is exciting and unusual for us at Bukowskis to sell a work of art by the French artist Jacques Majorelle at this spring's modern auction. Extra fun because last year I visited Marrakech and his nice blue villa, Jardin Majorelle. It will be thrilling to follow the bidding on this work!

Tadeusz Kantor Utan titel

######
Tadeusz Kantor is another exciting artistry that is represented at this spring's auction. This painting originates from Teto Ahrenberg's collection. The untitled work was made in 1960 and is a fine example of Kantor's energetically painted canvases during his informal period. Kantor himself describes these works as "secretions" of his inner self where passion, desires, despair and joy, remorse and longing, swirl together with memory.
