The specialist´s choice – Contemporary Art

Karin Aringer chooses three highlights from the auction

For newcomers amongst auctions, who aims to build a collection of contemporary art & photographs, is there any specific works they shall keep an eye on?
I recommend them to keep an eye on David Hockney’s and Robert Rauschenberg’s prints. They are well-established and popular artists who have a secure position at the auction market. Their prints are affordable and makes a good way to discover their artistry. If you are interested in photographs and wish to build a collection, high-quality classic black- and white photographs is a go-to. We offer several beautiful prints by Gunnar Smoliansky and Georg Oddner. We also carry two signed images by Kenneth Gustavsson, which is rare.

What piece should the more established collector go for?
We offer two paintings by Jim Dine and they are definitely something to keep an eye on if you are a more experienced collector with a large budget. This is his most well-known and iconic motifs executed about 1980. Dine is a highly recognized artist and his works are exhibited at prominent institutions worldwide.

If you are a more experienced collector of photographs, a series of vintage photos from Larry Clark’s ”Tulsa” might interest you. This iconic photobook made a great impact on the art scene with its raw and authentic expression when it was published in 1971. This auction offers some of Clark’s most famous motifs.

What can we expect from the Contemporary Art & Design viewing at Bukowskis?
A beautiful and intriguing mix of sculptures, photographs, paintings, prints and design. Visiting our viewing provides for a crash course in art history and there are plenty of interesting works to discover!

Karin Aringer’s three highlights from the auction:

Joakim Ojanen, ”OMG!”
Joakim Ojanen is one of my personal favourites. He has an unique expression and his sculptures have a genuine personality and encompass a soul. This is the first time we offer a piece by Joakim Ojanen. I hope that our collectors will appreciate his work as much as I do.

Francesca Woodman, Utan titel
I am fascinated by Francesca Woodman’s intense and short life. Her self-portraits are melancholic and mysterious, just like I imagine the artist herself. The compositions are bold and her images entails a very personal expression. Woodman has inspired many contemporary photographers.

Sten Eklund, ”Transporthall”
This glass painting from 1969, showing geometric constructions, refers to architectural drawings. The graphic motif paired with the shiny and elegant surface together with the delicate pastels makes for a perfect combination.
