Bertel Bertel-Nordstöms is most notably known forhis blue-tones impasto paintings, particularly those of his atmospheric depictions of Stockholm and its surrounding waters. He was an early modern expressionist, born in Helsinki 1884, and worked in Stockholm from 1915 onwards.
Bertel-Nordström was a self-taught artist. He travelled a great deal for his studies to places such as Copenhagen, Paris, Dresden, Florence and Venice.
Before becoming an artist, Bertel-Nordström was a wrestler and was one of the initiators of "Konsten i sporten" (Art in Sport), serving as its chairman from 1943 to 1946. He was also the exhibition commissioner for the Swedish art exhibition at the 1936 Berlin Olympics and an active member of the Optimist group.
Bertel-Nordström was represented at the National Museum of Stockholm, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Gothenburg’s Art Museum, Malmö Museum, Jämtlands Museum, Norrköpings Museum and Ataneum in Helsinki.
