In 1939, Arne Jacobsen and Flemming Lassen won an open competition to design a new town hall, a new library, and a theatre in Søllerød (Rudersdal). For the town hall, they designed a wedding room with accompanying furniture – including a sofa for the waiting room for the couple to sit in before they get married. Designed for the occasion, the sofa's appearance was shaped by high vertical backs and sides.
