Slog igenom under 1980-talet
Nan Goldin, född 1953 i Washington, D.C., inledde sin karriär i det tidiga 1980-talets New York. Runt om i staden visade hon sina verk på nattklubbar, alternativa biografer och filmfestivaler. Live inför publik presenterade hon bilderna organiserade i diabildspel med flera projektorer och eklektisk musik i bakgrunden.
Goldins magnum opus, ”The Ballad of Sexual Dependency”, dokumenterar hennes bohemiska, kreativa vänkrets och deras värld i Provincetown, på nedre Manhattan, i Berlin och i London under 1970- och 80-talet fram till nyligen.
Under de senaste 40 åren har Goldin producerat ett dussin olika bildspel med tusentals bilder. Med tiden har hon också tillfört nya element till sina verk, så som rörlig bild, röster och arkivmaterial."
