Bengt Åberg växte upp under fattiga förhållanden i Härnösand och började tidigt att måla. Bengt Åberg finn representerad bland annat i riksdagen, på olika museer samt i landsting och kommuner. Hans måleri beskrivs som färgglatt, expressionistiskt med typiska motiv som träd, fåglar, havsvågor och clowner.
Bengt Åberg var nära vän med konstnären Bengt Lindström.
Konstnärerna Bengt och Bengt följdes åt under många år och bodde även nära varandra i Essvik, Njurunda.
