Contemporary full vellum, title lettered on spine, lightly soiled, bookplate (?) crudely removed from front pastedown, old annotation in ink: “From the Libri Collection”, and an old signature.
Provenance: Guglielmo Libri Carucci dalla Sommaja (1803-1869); the book was sold by Sotheby & Wilkinson in July 1861, lot 5934.
First edition of Vossius’ commentary on the oldest geographical work by Pomponius Mela. It was placed on the Index in 1686. The first 66 pages contain Mela's text with an extensive index, followed by Vossius's commentary.
