Albert Engström was a Swedish artist, draftsman and author, influential in Swedish illustration art. Cartoons are his signiture, while he also created landscapes, portraits and floral still lifes. His upbrining in Hult, Småland was a immense influence for his artistry. But his soul and heart came to be dedicated to the infinitely beautiful Roslagen. Albert came in contact with a rustic and truthful environment in Grisslehamn, a place rooted in a deep complicated history which gave him endless sources of inspiration which came to life in his drawings. He studied at Valand's Art School with Carl Larsson as his teacher, and later he himself became a professor at The Royal Academy of Fine Arts and elected to the Swedish Academy. He corresponded often with August Strindberg, while his closest circle of artists consisted of Bruno Liljefors, Gustav Fröding and Verner von Heidenstam. Albert Engström is classified as a classic amoungst the cartoonists which blossomed in the 1900s.
