Ilja Karilampi, born 1983 in Gothenburg, is a Swedish artist working in Sweden and Germany. He studied at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main and the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. Karilampi often draws inspiration from popular culture and uses symbols from music culture, graphic design and stories in his art.
His work has been exhibited at several international galleries and museums, including MoMA PS1 in New York, Suzanne Geiss Company in New York and Wilkinson Gallery in London.
In Sweden, he is represented with public artworks such as ‘thinking thinking dot dot dot’ in Rannebergen, Gothenburg, and ‘Gbg for life yeah’ at Masthuggskajen in Gothenburg.
In 2022 he created ‘FolkFigur’, a digital public artwork in the form of an NFT, produced by Statens Konstråd (Public Art Agency Sweden).
