Helsinki Design Sale F612

Bukowskis presents Helsinki Design Sale – Finland's leading auction for modern design. The auction features a broad and carefully curated selection of design objects by sought-after Finnish and international designers. Highlights include a pair of pendant lights by Paavo Tynell made for Hotel Atlas in 1929, several decorative stoneware dishes by Birger Kaipiainen, the remarkable sculpture "Madonna" by Tapio Wirkkala, and a unique glass bowl by Timo Sarpaneva.

Sarpaneva’s glass bowl was previously part of the collection of Reino Löflund before passing to its current owner. Reino "Reka" Löflund served as master glassmaker at the Iittala glassworks, overseeing the entire production. Throughout his career, he collaborated closely with Timo Sarpaneva to develop several iconic series, including Claritas, Arkipelago, and Finlandia.

The auction also includes an exciting selection of jewellery by both Finnish and international designers. One of the highlight pieces is a rare silver ring from the 1930s by American artist Alexander Calder. The ring was personally gifted to Aino and Alvar Aalto by Calder during their visit to New York for the 1939 World’s Fair, where Finland’s pavilion received significant acclaim. Tapio Wirkkala is also represented with two gold necklaces, “Devil’s Head” and “Viking”.
