Welcome to a themed auction offering the opportunity to explore a collection of works by one of Sweden's most versatile and significant artists of the 20th century. Einar Forseth, born in 1892, was a pioneer in many different artistic expressions, working with mosaic, stained glass, illustration, porcelain, and much more. His works are characterised by a broad artistic range and a remarkable ability to create masterpieces in everything from public spaces to intimate personal projects.
This auction focuses primarily on sketches for some of his most famous and significant works, as well as personal pieces that have been passed down within the Forseth family. A particular highlight is the unique mosaic, a sample created by German mosaic workers to secure the commission of laying mosaics in the Golden Hall of the Stockholm City Hall, based on Forseth’s own sketches.
