Scandinavian Modern F544

Bukowskis presents an exclusive selection of Scandinavian design from the 1930s-1950s. Danish, Swedish and Finnish design has inspired people all over the world and shaped the interior design of our homes for almost a century. With early modernism and functionalism as a springboard, the art industry of the Nordic countries flourished at the international world exhibitions in Paris in 1937 and in New York in 1939. Scandinavian Modern became an international phenomenon that was characterized by blond woods, organic shapes and harmonious color choices. The innovative design combined with craftsmanship created timeless classics where form and function were united without compromising on comfort or beauty.

This themed auction features several modern classics, including Hans J. Wegner's iconic armchair "Bambe"/"Papa Bear," an early example from 1953, a cabinet and table from the series "Lovö" by Axel Einar Hjorth and Ib Kofod Larsen is represented with no less then two "Sälen" armchairs. The furniture is also joined by a fine collection of ceramics by Berndt Friberg, pleasant textiles by Märta Måås-Fjetterström and illuminating design by Harald Notini.

Final consignments are ongoing for our upcoming live auction Modern Art & Design, 19–20 November.
