Sculptures by Viljo Savikurki F521

Viljo Savikurki (1905–1975) was a Finnish sculptor known primarily for his public monuments and memorial statues. In the 1930s he studied at The Drawing School of the Finnish Art Society, where he developed a style of classical influences and realism and began working primarily with sculpture. His most prolific creative period was in the 1950s, when he executed, among other things, the bronze sculpture Sugar Girl (1956) located in a small park by Mannerheimintie, one of Savikurki's best-known works. Working mainly in bronze and granite, Savikurki created numerous monuments, hero statues and memorials during his career, commemorating notable events and figures in Finnish history.
