Eliel Saarinen, a buffé around 1900.

Stained birch. In the upper section two cabinets, and a center compartment with a folding door. The lower section has a double door revealing a shelving interior. Hinges and decorative fittings in copper. Width 190 cm, depth 56 cm, total height 168 cm.

Restored and with later additions. Damages and cracks due to dryness of the material. Skew. The cabinet is reinforced with several screws. Decorative nails are missing. One of the upper cabinets locked. The hinges of the center compartment are damaged, making the lid difficult to open and it is crooked. The key is missing.

Provenance

Evert Skogström (1870-1935) was a prominent civil engineering expert during the early years of Finnish independence. He had a lengthy career with the National Board of Public Works and was appointed the first Director-General of the reorganized Central Office in 1925. Additionally, Skogström served two terms as the Minister of Transport and Public Works.
