A mirror by Fredric Johan Foeder or Fjäder, (Master in Turku 1782-1832). Signed F.J.F and hallmarked in Turku.
Bronzed, carved decoration. In frame beaded. In the crown and the bottom recessed series of pictures behind glass. Height 152 cm, width 65 cm.
The upper parts painted picture later. There is a slight loss of colour at the lower edge. Wear due to age and use. Retouching in the bronzing.
Foeder is considered one of the most important mirror makers in Finland during the neoclassical period. Three Gustavian mirrors signed F.J.F. are in the National Museum in Helsinki (Torsten Sylvén, Elsebeth Welander-Berggren, Mirrors, p. 121).
