Artist

Tsuchiya Kōitsu 土屋光逸 was active within the Shin-hanga movement. He trained under the ukiyo-e master Kobayashi Kiyochika for nearly twenty years, learning the dramatic variations of light for which he later became known. His early subjects primarily depicted scenes from the First Sino-Japanese War, while his later works mainly consist of poetic landscapes. Kōitsu worked with the famous art publisher Shōzaburō Watanabe from 1931.
