He was born on February 26, 1932, in Arkansas and began playing guitar and writing songs as a teenager. Cash is considered one of the most influential and iconic artists in country music, and he had a unique voice and style that made him a legend within the genre.

Cash became known for his songs about the harsher sides of life, such as prison, alcoholism, and heartache. He was nicknamed "Man in Black" because of his characteristic black attire, and his powerful lyrics and stories made him a folk hero among his fans. Despite his own personal struggles, Cash fought to keep his music career going until his death in 2003.
