More information

Eino Schroderus graduated from the Polytechnic College of Architecture in 1907. He founded Taidetakomo Koru Oy on Pietarinkatu in the same year after taking part in a competition organized by the architects' trade magazine 'Arkitekten' to design an electric lamp.
The Taidetakomo Koru Oy company aimed to produce lighting at low cost, without compromising artistic quality. Eino Schroderus himself both designed and manufactured the lamps, which were made of various metals such as brass and copper. The lamps show a combination of Schroderus's clear lines, but there is also a decorative element. The collection also included different colored silk shades designed by him.
The company received significant orders from both Finland and abroad. The luminaires were designed for many public buildings, such as the Stock Exchange House, the Tampere Theatre, and, the Pielavesi Church. Initially, the workshop was located in Pietarinkatu in Helsinki, then Mariankatu, and later still, as production grew, the workshop moved to Mikonkatu.
Taidetakomo Koru also manufactured custom-made lights by other designers, whose influences can be seen in Koru Oy's lighting collection.
In addition to the lamps, Taidetakomo Koru Oy produced architectural ornaments, fittings, and decorative tiles in various designs.
The products are stamped AB KORU OY.
