Olle Baertling - Flag's for America Cup F445

During the 1950s, triangles and diagonals became the main theme for Olle Baertling. From basic geometric elements, he built up a new visual world of form, lines, proportions, and colour. Baertling preferred artificial colors that did not evoke natural landscapes or typical color associations. Today, he is considered one of Sweden's most important artists of the 20th century with an immediately recognizable and characteristic expression.

Olle Baertling was open to transferring his aesthetic philosophy also in sculptures and textiles. In 1972, he experimented with composing flags, placing his creations directly in open spaces, allowing them to flow freely against the sky.

In 1977, in collaboration with the America's Cup sailing race, he created an art portfolio consisting of four textile flags that can be placed on boats and flagpoles. All were signed, numbered, and sold to contribute to Sweden's chances in the America's Cup. Bukowskis is pleased to present the opportunity to acquire flags from this sought-after portfolio.
