Handwritten cash books, etc., Stockholm 1768, 1798

Handwritten cash books, etc., Stockholm 1768, 1798

Three volumes of calligraphically written accounts for an unidentified trading house in Stockholm, half-calf bindings, beautifully marbled cover papers. The initials LB appear on one spine title. Two of the volumes are titled on the spines "Journal L. B. 1768" (August 1768-January 1769) and "Balance Book etc. 1768" (January-December 1768), the third is thin and lacks a spine title but pertains to transactions for January-March 1798 and begins with a detailed inventory "As I now in the name of the Lord start my own trade". The list includes, among other things, a stone house in the city and the manor "Niclas hof" on Norrmalm in the Adolf Fredrik parish (located "by Surbrunn"), shares in ships, goods, receivables, and debts. The subsequent transactions concern a variety of goods of all kinds, including a purchase of shares in the Swedish East India Company from Johan Kåre on February 3, bar iron from Reinhold Geijer on the 9th, and so on.
