Timo Sarpaneva's collection.
In 1969, Timo Sarpaneva's latest glass production was extensively presented at an exhibition held in Heal's department store in London. The exhibition showcased dozens of objects, including large lamps, art glasses, vases, and drinking glasses, and the color scheme was vibrant, with orange, light yellow, lime green, opal white, and clear glass. The design was peaceful, and many of the objects were double-cased, blown 'upside down', i.e., the glassblower blew into the blowpipe from the underside of the object, not from the mouth. Despite their large appearance, the double-cased pieces were lightweight. In the early 1980s glassmaster Reino Löflund called Timo and asked him to visit the Iittala factory. The factory needed more storage space, and unique handmade exhibits were being crushed into large bins. Timo was able to save what could fit in the van, including some of Heal's exhibits. Unfortunately, around 600 items were destroyed.
