The bar cabinet is manufactured by Paul Boman Ltd and the relief carvings are made by Michael Schilkin. The double doors depict young men playing with a dog. Behind the doors, there is a glass shelf, and the back panel has a mirror and lighting. Marked with manufacturer label and the relief is signed M. Schilkin. Length 120 cm. Height 55 cm. Depth 27 cm. Key included.
Wear due to age and use. Veneer damages. Scratches. Replaced glass shelf. Electrical wires are cut. The lock is tight.
The bar cabinet was part of the collection of the art dealer Leonard Bäcksbacka and was subsequently transferred to the current owner.
Michael Schilkin (1900-1962) was a Finnish sculptor and ceramicist born in Trubino, Russia. He moved to Finland in 1921 and studied at the Central School of Art. Eventually he was hired at the Arabia porcelain factory. He is mainly known for his stoneware and clay figurines depicting wild animals, but also created human figures and wall reliefs in public places with musty glazes in earth tones. The sculptures are powerful with a humorous tone.
